Feeling Behind in Life? Read This Before Comparing Yourself Again

Someone your age just got their dream job.

Someone else is studying abroad. Another person is getting engaged, starting a business, or posting pictures of a life that looks almost impossibly perfect.

And then there’s you.

Maybe you’re still figuring out your career. Maybe you changed your degree, failed an exam, took a break, or simply don’t know what comes next.

Suddenly, it feels as if everyone received a map to adulthood except you.

If you’ve ever felt this way, take a breath. Feeling behind doesn’t mean you actually are.

Social media shows milestones, not the whole story

We usually see the announcement, not the uncertainty that came before it.

We see the graduation picture, not the sleepless nights. We see the new job, not the rejected applications. We see the happy couple, not the difficult conversations they may be having privately.

When you compare your everyday life with other people’s most polished moments, you are comparing two very different things.

And social media makes that comparison incredibly easy.

The pressure to have everything figured out

In Pakistan, young adults may face expectations from several directions at once: family responsibilities, financial pressure, academic performance, career choices, and questions about marriage.

Sometimes, even a simple question like “What are you doing with your life?” can feel like an examination you didn’t prepare for.

It’s understandable to want stability and progress. The problem begins when you treat every delay as proof that you’re failing.

A difficult year is not a failed life. Changing direction is not automatically a mistake. Needing more time does not make you less deserving of success.
